Believe it or not, God created fear  for a reason.  Just like the Sun to give light during the day and the moon to give light at night, fear was created by God Almighty to fulfill a purpose.  I can almost hear you say that how can a wise God create something like fear. Please hold that thought and read the creation story in Genesis Chapter 1. You will observe that the Almighty made no exceptions, he created ALL THINGS. Fear falls under the category of all things. We know that everything God made was  for a reason, therefore it is  safe to say that ‘ God created fear for a reason ‘.

By now,  I am sure you have a few questions hovering around the walls of  your mind. Questions like,  ‘what is fear ?’, ‘Why would God create fear?’, ‘How can fear be a good thing?’ , ‘When can fear be a good thing ?’ and so on. Let’s begin with a definition of fear.

Fear is defined as ‘an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm‘. That definition is very ‘on point’, and most likely close to what we are familiar with, don’t you think ? Let’s look at another definition, this time from the bible. Proverbs 9: 10 says, ‘the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom’.  Looking at these two definitions, you would observe that fear changes as a result of what we do with it. If we ‘fear the Lord’ we get wisdom however if we fear in response to perceived threat of danger, pain or harm, the outcome is different.

It is quite easy to understand that God wants us to have wisdom and thus fear him. However what about the other kind of fear? Did God create that one too ? If yes,  for what reason did God create that unpleasant emotion? Before I delve into an answer,  allow me to state here that Fear is fear. There is no good fear or bad fear. Just the same way the Sun and Moon receive light from the same source, fear of the Lord and the unpleasant emotion caused by threat both come from the same source – your mind.

God created fear for a reason

God created fear for a reason, so you can please him. Each time fear comes into your mind, it is an opportunity for you to respond with faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen ( Hebrews  11:1 ),  verse  6 of  Hebrews 11 states ‘without faith it is impossible to please God’.  Listen,  God created fear so you can have faith.

The difference between those who succeed in life and those who do not is that they act in spite of fear.  They make fear a fuel rather than a barrier. Rather than ask, ‘what  if I fail?’, they have faith and remind themselves that ‘God is able to do exceedingly abundantly far above all I can ask of imagine ( Eph 3: 20 )’.  Rather than be worried that things will not go their way, they remind themselves the promise in Isaiah 45:2, ” I will go before thee and make the crooked way straight “.
